#31 - Bane Canyon Loop

03/30/2019

Chino Hills, California

Super bloom hype! I saw photos of a friend riding his bike on the greenest hills I've ever seen. He sneakily tagged it "Secret Place" on Instagram and I instantly knew I had to give it a visit. Luckily I was given the name without much struggle and now I'm here spoiling all the secrets on this blog that no one reads.

Chino Hills State Park is a little hidden treasure located near the Santa Ana Canyon & Riverside. The park has over 14,000 acres of green hills and over 90 miles of multi-use trails. The park accommodates hikers, campers, bikers, and even horses on dedicated horseback trails. Some day-use activities include picnic areas, learning / visitor centers, exhibits, guided tours, vista points, museums, and geocaching. There is limited parking, restrooms, and drinking water available throughout the park. Click here to learn more.

Bane Canyon Loop is a very family friendly hike with little-to-no elevation gain. The views of rolling green hills, super blooms, and the San Bernardino mountains makes this trail a real treat. There are restrooms and picnic areas at the halfway point of the hike that make for a perfect resting spot. I knew I had to get the most out of my trip so I turned this hike into a trail run to quickly get a second trail in before the end of the day (hurray for flat ground!).

Distance: 5.8 miles (Loop)

Elevation Gain: 754 ft.

Highest Elevation: ~1,100 ft.

Directions to Chino Hills State Park: Use the following coordinates in Google Maps to route your directions to the entrance of Chino Hills State Park or enter "East Entrance of Chino Hills State Park".

33.954689, -117.7029368

After entering the park, park as near to the entrance station as possible. The hike begins a few hundred feet before the station.

Here's a map of the hike courtesy of AllTrails.

Parked and looking back at the entrance station. Walk along the road until you reach an obvious trailhead.

The flowers are beautiful!

Trailhead.

The majority of the trail is a narrow pathway through thick brush. Longs pants are recommended.

When you come to a fork, follow the sign for Bane Ridge Trail.

Rolling green hills and more flowers!

You can see the halfway point / picnic area.

Made it! Now time to finish the loop.

Some pictures on the second half.
