This is a revised post. The older post recorded the climb (Whodunit) rather than the approach itself. I made sure to correct this the next time I dropped by Tahquitz.

San Jacinto Wilderness, California
Tahquitz Rock is located just above the little town of Idyllwild in Riverside County, CA. When you get here, the first thing you’ll notice is the towering rock face of Tahquitz. There are two trails from the parking lot that you can take to reach various locations of the base of Tahquitz. We took the Ernie Maxwell Scenic Trail which lead us straight to the climber's trail, then to Lunch Rock, and eventually to the west face of Tahquitz. The trail starts off relatively easy with little to no elevation gain. It wasn't until we hit the climber's trail where I was reminded how out of shape I was. I guess a full year of sitting around in grad school really caught up to me... But the friends I went with were in top notch shape and were patient with my slow, potato ass. They are truly my inspiration.
We simul climbed the 400' route, The Trough (5.4) in 2 long pitches. Apparently this route is the YDS definition of 5.0. I can't imagine climbing anything harder in Yosemite. God I am so out of shape.
Distance: ~2 miles(?)
I could not find how long the overall approach was. But it took us around 35 minutes to reach the base of the climb from the parking lot.
Directions to the start of the trail: Use the directions feature in Google Maps and enter the following coordinates exactly as shown. This will take you straight to the parking lot at the beginning of the trail. A National Adventure Pass is required to park here.
33.764615, -116.685998
The start of the trail.
The climber's trail is hard to miss. You will come up on it fairly quickly.
Taking a quick breather.
Continuing on...
Made it! I forgot to take a picture (howw do you do that Chrissss) at the base so I took a picture at the start of the climber's trail on the hike back down.
Chris's Difficulty Scale (Approach Only) - 5/10
