#16 - Shelf Road to Cactus Cliff

07/03/2015

North of Cañon City, Colorado

Cactus Cliff was too beautiful to not document. This area has some of my favorite sport routes including my new favorite problem Crynoid Corner (5.7). Fun and easy approach with long routes that include solid finger/fist/hand jams. We camped at the Banks Campground where it was a nice $7 per night. The campsite is accompanied with an elevated platform for your tents, fire pits, picnic benches, and a restroom with no running water. Weather is funky here in the summer with scattered thunderstorms throughout the entire day. Bring a raincoat!

Distance: 1.5 miles from the Banks Campground

Elevation Gain: It is downhill almost the entire way.

Final Elevation: ~6,800 ft.

Directions to the Start of the Approach: Use the following coordinates in Google Maps to route your directions to the Banks Campground. Follow the fork on the road and keep right. You'll see an obvious trail marker leading you down some rocky steps. From here, follow the signs leading you to Cactus Cliff.
