#1 - Mt. Wilson via Upper Winter Creek Trail

06/14/2012

Sierra Madre, California

What's a better way than starting my hiking blog with a local favorite? The Mt. Wilson Trail via the Upper Winter Creek Trail is the perfect hike for anyone to get quickly get into shape. I foolishly started at 9:00am (about an hour before the 400 degree weather hit) and reached the summit by around 1:00pm. Though this trail starts with plenty of shade (on and off throughout), it ends with a brutal mile on a dirt road, directly under the blazing sun. Do not underestimate this trail! It is a long, tedious hike but certainly not impossible. Bring and drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks if needed, and enjoy the hike.

Distance: ~14 miles (Out-and-Back)

Elevation Gain: ~4,200 ft.

Final Elevation: 5,712 ft.
